Training and Employment

CanAssist is embarking on a major initiative to develop opportunities for training, skills building and meaningful employment for those with special needs.  Particular emphasis will be placed on assisting those with acute disabilities. The initiative will be carried out in partnership with complementary local, provincial and national agencies, along with other groups involved in supported employment and related activities.

Part of this initiative involves creating employment and training for those with disabilities within the CanAssist program - including roles in administration, outreach, and technology development and production. A second part of the initiative will see CanAssist initiate or facilitate an increase in employment and training opportunities for those with disabilities across UVic's campus and beyond.

We also anticipate that the realization of this initiative will serve as a model for other employers, providing them with guidance and information about making their workplaces more accessible and inclusive to those with disabilities.
