CanAssist moves to a new home

Latest News

After many years, the entire CanAssist team is together under the same roof.

Monday, Feb. 15, CanAssist moved to a facility on UVic's campus called E-Hut. The one-storey building is located behind Campus Security, not far from the McKinnon Gym.

For the past several years, CanAssist team members have been scattered across campus, working in a number of different buildings, including, most recently, the Technology Enterprise Facility and Cunningham Building.

The freshly renovated E-Hut provides 5,000 square feet of space where CanAssist's engineers, computer programmers and operations staff, as well as volunteers and clients, can work together.

“It's very exciting that we are moving to such a wonderful space. It's going to make a huge difference to every facet of our program,” said Director Nigel Livingston.

The University has made an incredible commitment to CanAssist. We are extremely appreciative of that.”

Recent renovations to E-Hut include making the building fully accessible, with features such as a state-of- the-art wheelchair ramp and accessible washroom, as well as cosmetic upgrades.

CanAssist is exploring renovating the laboratory area of E-Hut in 2010 to include a small localized machine and specialized electronics shop.
