Minister Melanie (centre) gets a chance to view CanAssist technologies.B.C.'s new Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Training dropped by CanAssist Aug. 9 to learn more about the unique UVic organization.

As part of a larger tour of the university, Melanie Mark got the chance to try some of CanAssist's assistive technologies and meet its staff. UVic President Jamie Cassels led the tour, which was also attended by Deputy Minister Shannon Baskerville.

The tour group saw demonstrations of CanAssist's Guitar Strummer, Hitch Lift and Waveband software app, among other technologies.

The Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training provides leadership and direction for post-secondary education and skills training systems in B.C., as well as labour market information and programs.
